Our Story

Built on the Ocean Floor

Deep Blue Recycling began with a single dive and a single question: what if the ocean's greatest threat could become its most powerful advocate?

The Origin

A Reef That Changed Everything

In 2019, founder Elena Mares was diving off Buck Island when she encountered a ghost net the size of a city block, slowly suffocating a 200-year-old coral formation. She surfaced with the beginnings of an obsession.

Within six months, Elena had assembled a team of recovery divers, a refinery partnership in St. Thomas, and a network of master jewelers who shared her vision. Deep Blue Recycling was born not in a boardroom, but forty feet beneath the Caribbean surface.

Today, we operate across 12 reef recovery zones throughout the USVI and neighboring Caribbean waters, transforming what we recover into luxury objects that carry that ecosystem's story into the world.

Our Mission

Three Commitments We Keep

Protect the Reef

We use surgical extraction methods developed in partnership with NOAA to minimize disruption to coral colonies during recovery operations. The reef comes first, always.

Employ the Community

Every piece employs local St. Thomas divers, sorters, and artisans at living wages. Our supply chain keeps value in the USVI community that lives alongside the ocean we restore.

Prove It's Possible

We publish open data on reef recovery progress, material traceability, and social impact. Because we believe transparency is the foundation of trust in sustainable luxury.

Our Difference

Why Deep Blue Is Unlike Anything Else

Sustainable jewelry exists. Ocean-recovered, reef-traceable, community-crafted luxury jewelry from St. Thomas — that's us alone.

Traceability

GPS-Tagged at Source

Each piece includes a certificate with the exact reef coordinates, dive date, and recovery team who pulled your material from the ocean.

Craft

Master-Level Artisanship

Our jewelers average 18 years of fine jewelry experience. Ocean plastic isn't an afterthought — it's the hero material, worked with the same reverence as gold.

Impact

Measurable Restoration

We track biodiversity in every recovery zone before and after operations. Our data shows a 34% average increase in reef species diversity across monitored sites.

Luxury

No Aesthetic Compromise

We refuse to let "sustainable" mean "lesser." Our jewelry competes on design, finish, and longevity with any fine jewelry house in the world.
